PROPANE COOKSTOVE

Post by Toepopper »

Here is something I did not know. The newer natural gas or propane cooking ranges, with the digital clocks and push button controls, will cease to function in the event of an EMP strike or if the grid goes down. They employ an electric gas shut off safety valve so if the electronic controls burn out or otherwise malfunction the gas to the burners in the oven will remain in the OFF position at the safety valve and the burners won't light. The old style gas ranges would light by holding a match to the exposed burners but thats no longer the case in todays electronic world. It might be wise to look for an older, maybe apartment sized gas range to keep as a backup so you will at least be able to cook and bake should anything happen. I have seen these old ranges for sale in the shopping guide for $20 or $25, in good condition.
