Travois

Post by Toepopper »

A travois is a device made from 2 tree branches or saplings and tied to a horse or a dog to pull your gear on. The poles drag on the ground behind the animal and a system of straps or an old piece of canvas or rug or deer hide is attached to the poles to set your gear on. This can be attached by poking holes through the material with your knife or a sharp stick and forcing short lengths of small branches through the holes in both sides of the material to secure it to the poles. This will work when all the gas is gone and you have no other way of transporting your stuff. Then after you are forced to eat your horse you can find a tree branch with a fork in it and make a human powered single pole travois to drag whats left of your gear behind you. You can move more equipment by dragging it than you can carrying it on your back. When moving up a mountainside you will have to move your gear in relays to get over the top but on the downhill trek you will be able to drag all the gear on your travois in one trip.
