Stevia plants

Post by WillyPete »

I had gone to a Tractor Supply store to purchase some gear and at the checkout, a lady was selling various candies. I declined her offer since I'm diabetic but, she offered sugar free candies which I still declined then tried to sell me STEVIA extract, powder in a jar.
We got to talking about stevia and I mentioned that I wanted to obtain some plants to grow my own. She told me she would be setting up shop at the first of the month and would have some stevia plants available for purchase.
Guess where I'll be the first of November!
Now I'll be researching how to keep that plant alive, seeing as how I have a black thumb  then, how to extract the sweetener part. This oughtta be tasty, ya know? :D

That should be an interesting project. Stevia is native to South America and the leaves are chewed because they are sweet. I wonder what process you do to extract the stevia from the plants?

Haven't found that bit of knowledge yet but, I will be asking questions of the lady from whom I will be purchasing my plant(s)
