Using Aluminum Cookware...it is okay but...

Post by fern »

Dr. Manthei wrote a book called "How To Defad Your Diet", and this excerpt was included regarding Aluminum Cookware. The second quote came from Dr. Reams during one of his cooking courses.

BEGIN MANTHEI QUOTE --- What about aluminum cookware? Most of the problems with aluminum cookware has been because of tiny pockets that form in the sides of the pans. Aluminum is a very soft metal and will pit very easily. Those pits are where anaerobic bacteria or the botulism type of bacteria can get in and cause toxins to get into the foods when it is cooked. The botulism is what causes the problem and not the aluminum cookware. If aluminum was a poison, we all would be dead as 8% of the earth's crust is aluminum.

BEGIN REAMS QUOTE --- The next is aluminum. Now some of you are surprised at me saying aluminum is good cookware. The only problem with aluminum is people don't keep it clean. It's a soft material that pits and botulism gets into those pits and makes you sick. You blame it on the aluminum ware. You don't – throw it away whenever it should be thrown away. But it isn't the aluminum that makes you sick; it’s the filth in it. And these little holes are so small many times so that you can hardly see them, where you can’t see them with your eye. But if you'll notice and reflect it, there will be little black dots. And I don't care how much you scrub it, there will be teeny little black dots – or brown dots or gray dots or green dots – in that aluminum ware. And when there is, don't use it. Don't cook with it. But clean aluminum ware is not poisonous. 7% of the Earth's crust is aluminum. And if it was poison, all of us would be seriously dead ...
