Chapter III – Sustainable Preparedness: Safety and Preparedness In Numbers

I’ve been preaching for 20 years that there is preparedness and safety in numbers. Sadly, it is a message that has fallen on deaf ears for the most part. People may have good intentions about learning preparedness tactics but they soon lose interest when things are running smoothly. Y2K was a harbinger, though thanks be to God nothing happened. There were preppers, though, who latched on to the message and thought ‘maybe there is something to this.’ The coronavurus pandemic is adequate verification of their concerns. Backing up a bit, “preppers” were divided into distinct groups, though they may not have been completely aware that they were categorized:

• The beginning prepper maybe had a bug placed in his ear by an associate or friend. The new prepper has a gut feeling that he should do something. In this category there are many couples that are split because one feels the other went off the deep end. Ultimately, much of the money they spent on supplies ends up in the landfill and they’re back to square one for others to take care of them. One member of the couple may be despondent and friction begins.

• A couple, both on the same wavelength. They don’t waste any time, budget, or effort to “BE PREPARED”. Because they both are believers and things progress at a faster pace to reach that magic point. One natural result of a tuned family is that a good portion of them kick it up a notch and begin “homesteading” and taking self-reliance seriously.

• There is another category that all need to be vigilant about – PAYTRIOTS. These people have no intention of taking prepping and familial defense seriously. They have a focused goal of “selling prepping supplies and making a fortune.” Most visible in this group are those who peddle supplements, vitamins, elixirs, and so forth. I would rather have a JUSTINCASE in my hands with some extra rounds than all the supplements on earth. These people sometimes want to ingratiate themselves into a “spirit of cooperation with you, to enhance their own efforts.” We have NEVER sold anything, do not permit advertisements, nor exchange links with anyone. We do this deliberately to keep the costs down to nil or almost nil for our fellow preppers. When you give something away for free it is the same principle as “pass it on”. Give your neighbor or friend enough credit that they WILL pass it on (at least make that a key negotiating point). As the circle of security increases everyone becomes safer. Get that?

• There are quite a few categories of preppers but here is one more important one that must be covered. The motor mouths. These are people who advertise everything they are doing and (and sometimes what YOU are doing) and are actually putting people in danger. KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT about what you and your family are doing for safety’s sake. This is the person who will brag that if anything happens, “I’ll come to your house!”
